HOW-TO: Change the screensaver

Changing your screensaver is a simple process that varies slightly depending on your operating system. Here are the steps for both Windows and macOS:

Windows

  1. Windows 10/11:
    1. Right-click on the desktop and select “Personalize.”
    2. In the left-hand menu, click on “Lock screen.”
    3. Scroll down and click on “Screen saver settings.”
    4. In the Screen Saver Settings window, select a screensaver from the drop-down menu.
    5. Click on “Settings” to customize the screensaver, if available.
    6. Set the “Wait” time (the amount of inactivity time before the screensaver starts).
    7. Click “Apply,” then “OK.”
  2. Windows 7/8:
    1. Right-click on the desktop and select “Personalize.”
    2. Click on “Screen Saver” at the bottom right of the window.
    3. In the Screen Saver Settings window, select a screensaver from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click on “Settings” to customize the screensaver, if available.
    5. Set the “Wait” time (the amount of inactivity time before the screensaver starts).
    6. Click “Apply,” then “OK.”

macOS

  1. System Preferences:
    1. Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select “System Preferences.”
    2. Click on “Desktop & Screen Saver.”
    3. Go to the “Screen Saver” tab.
    4. Browse through the list of screensavers on the left and select one.
    5. Use the “Start after” drop-down menu to set the amount of inactivity time before the screensaver starts.
    6. Click on “Screen Saver Options” to customize the screensaver, if available.
    7. Close the System Preferences window.

Customizing Your Screensaver

  • Settings: Some screensavers have additional settings you can customize by clicking the “Settings” or “Options” button in the Screen Saver Settings window (Windows) or Screen Saver tab (macOS).
  • Preview: You can preview the screensaver before applying it by clicking the “Preview” button.
  • Photos as Screensaver: Both Windows and macOS allow you to use your own photos as a screensaver. On Windows, choose “Photos” from the screensaver list and specify the folder. On macOS, select “Photo Library” or “Choose Folder” to select the images you want to use.
