HOW-TO: Forget Wireless Network and Reconnect

Forgetting a wireless network and reconnecting to it can help resolve various connectivity issues. Here are the steps for Windows, macOS, and Linux:

Windows

  1. Windows 10/11:
    1. Forget Network:
      1. Click on the network icon in the taskbar (Wi-Fi symbol).
      2. Click on “Network & Internet settings” at the bottom.
      3. Select “Wi-Fi” from the left sidebar.
      4. Click on “Manage known networks.”
      5. Find the network you want to forget and click on it.
      6. Click “Forget.”
    2. Reconnect:
      1. Click on the network icon in the taskbar.
      2. Select the network you want to reconnect to from the list of available networks.
      3. Click “Connect.”
      4. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click “Next” to reconnect.
  2. Windows 7/8:
    1. Forget Network:
      1. Open Control Panel.
      2. Go to “Network and Sharing Center.”
      3. Click on “Manage wireless networks” on the left sidebar.
      4. Right-click on the network you want to forget and select “Remove network.”
    2. Reconnect:
      1. Click on the network icon in the taskbar.
      2. Select the network you want to reconnect to from the list of available networks.
      3. Click “Connect.”
      4. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click “OK” to reconnect.

macOS

  1. Forget Network:
    1. Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select “System Preferences.”
    2. Click on “Network.”
    3. Select “Wi-Fi” from the list on the left.
    4. Click on “Advanced” in the lower right corner.
    5. In the “Wi-Fi” tab, find the network you want to forget.
    6. Select the network and click the “-” button to remove it.
    7. Click “OK” and then “Apply.”
  2. Reconnect:
    1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
    2. Select the network you want to reconnect to from the list of available networks.
    3. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click “Join.”

Linux (Ubuntu)

  1. Forget Network:
    1. Click on the network icon in the system tray.
    2. Select “Settings” or “Network Settings” from the dropdown menu.
    3. In the Wi-Fi settings, find the network you want to forget.
    4. Click on the network and then click “Forget” or “Remove.”
  2. Reconnect:
    1. Click on the network icon in the system tray.
    2. Select the network you want to reconnect to from the list of available networks.
    3. Enter the Wi-Fi password and click “Connect.”

These steps will help you forget and reconnect to a wireless network on most operating systems.
