HOWTO: Disable Block Notifications

If you’re getting a message that “your browser blocks notifications” when trying to enable Google Calendar notifications, it could be due to your browser’s settings. Here’s how you can resolve this issue by allowing notifications in your browser:

For Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and click the three dots in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Scroll down and click on Privacy and security.
  4. Click on Site settings.
  5. Under Permissions, click on Notifications.
  6. Find Google Calendar in the list of blocked sites.
    • If it’s listed, click the three dots next to it and select Allow.
    • If it’s not listed, go to the Google Calendar website and click on the lock icon in the address bar, then choose Allow next to Notifications.
  7. Restart your browser and try enabling notifications again.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox and click the menu button (three lines) in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click on Privacy & Security.
  4. Scroll down to the Permissions section and find Notifications.
  5. Click on Settings.
  6. Find Google Calendar in the list.
    • If it’s listed as “Blocked”, change it to Allow.
    • If it’s not listed, go to the Google Calendar website and try enabling notifications again, allowing them when prompted.

For Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Edge and click the three dots in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click on Cookies and site permissions on the left sidebar.
  4. Scroll down to Notifications.
  5. Under Allow, find Google Calendar.
    • If it’s not there, go to the Google Calendar website, click on the lock icon in the address bar, and select Allow for notifications.
  6. Restart your browser and try enabling notifications again.

For Safari:

  1. Open Safari and click on Safari in the menu bar.
  2. Go to Preferences.
  3. Select the Websites tab.
  4. Scroll down to Notifications in the left-hand column.
  5. Find Google Calendar in the list and select Allow.
  6. Restart Safari and try enabling notifications again.
