HOWTO: Manage update settings

Managing Windows updates effectively is crucial for both security and convenience. Here’s how you can take more control over your Windows 11 updates:

1. Open Settings:
   • Press Win + I on your keyboard or click on the Start menu and select Settings.
2. Navigate to Windows Update:
   • In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on Windows Update.
3. Access Advanced Options:
   • In the Windows Update section, click on Advanced options. This will open a range of settings that allow you to customize how updates are applied.
4. Set Active Hours:
   • Active Hours: Click on Active hours to set the time during which you typically use your computer. Windows will avoid automatically restarting your device during these hours.
   • Automatic Adjustment: You can also let Windows automatically adjust active hours based on your usage patterns.
5. Get a Restart Reminder:
   • Restart Notifications: Enable the option to receive a reminder 15 minutes before your computer is scheduled to restart to apply updates. This way, you won’t be caught off guard by an unexpected restart.
6. Pause Updates (Optional):
   • If you need to delay updates for a specific period, you can pause them from the Windows Update settings. This can be helpful if you’re in the middle of a critical project and don’t want any interruptions.

Additional Tips:

• Check for Updates Manually: If you prefer, you can manually check for updates and install them at a convenient time by clicking the Check for updates button in the Windows Update section.
• Review Update History: You can also view your update history in the Advanced options to see what updates have been installed and if any have failed.
